Just to start out I would like to point out that when I went to take Risa's pictures her kids walked me around the living room and pointed out all the things that she made. They were so excited to show off their mom, I just think that says a lot about what a wonderful mom and person she is.
On that note I would like to introduce you to Risa Baker the master mind behind the blog www.restlessrisa.blogspot.com.
Tell me a little about you and your family.
I am luckily married to the love of my life, and am mom to 3 kids and an angel. I love being a homemaker, and running our home. I like cooking and baking, sewing and crafting. I love party planning, and am always thinking up the next theme for my kids birthday parties. I look for any excuse to throw a themed late night for my kids, in addition to the birthday parties. I know my time with them is short, and I want to make the most of it.
What do you and your family like doing most together? Our family loves to go on road trips, and we especially love to visit National Parks. We like exploring new places, and are always planning our next trip! We like camping, and hotel stays. I like planning and packing activities for my kids to do on the road.
What's the hardest thing for you about being a mom?
The hardest part of being a mom, is knowing that I am not perfect in my mothering, and wondering if I have permanently ruined my children, if I have spoken harshly, or have been impatient or yelled. The best part is when we are all together, and everyone is content, and I can look at each of the members of my family, and feel like the luckiest girl in the world. It might be a night at home, or on a family walk, or out to dinner. But I love it when it happens and I recognize it. That is my bliss.
What are your favorite things in life?
My favorite things in life in general, date nights with my husband fun times with my kids. I also love creating! If I am feeling stressed, taking the time to sit out and create something or rearrange furniture always seems to calm me. I also love my fabulous girlfriends, and my mom. Each one is a special kind of therapist in my life. I am thankful for them every day! I also like it when things in my life are organized. I like to look in a clean closet or drawer. Messes make me itch. It's hard to be that way when you are constantly in a project.
Tell me about your blog.
I named my blog, restlessrisa, because it perfectly describes me. I am restless, and like to create, and always be busy doing something. I share my adventures in crafting, party planning, cooking, baking, decor, and holiday traditions.
What's your all time favorite project you've done?
I don't think I have a favorite project in particular on my blog, I would have to say... my favorite project is the life and atmosphere I am trying to create, and the memories I am trying to make. What I am trying to create, and what someone else may want to create in their homes might be very different, with emphasis in different areas. When my kids look back, or people that know me remember me, I want them to have good and fun memories, of an ordinary occasion made special. I want my kids childhood to be magical.
What's the one thing you can't live without that you have around your house?
I have a beauty item that I can't live without. I would even want it if I was stranded on an island... tweezers.
Do you have any advice for mothers trying to find their talents?
Each one of us has talents that are so special, and individual. If there were a million of me walking around... life would be so boring! My advice would be this: Don't be afraid! Try new things. See what makes you happy. Find your own personal style (trial and error is the best way). If you don't like a project you have done, or an outfit you have worn, tweak it until you do. It took me 7 years and lots of moving furniture and thrifting, to actually feel like I nailed my living room. Be happy for and supportive of your friends in their creative endeavors! Don't give up. Don't be too hard on yourself. Have fun. If thrifting is fun for you, do it! If running is fun, do that. Don't be afraid to start. Don't worry if it's not perfect the first time!
